摘要
A full-duplex ATM ring network using destination removal can achieve a network throughput level much higher than the internodal link data rate. However, such a network exhibits fairness problems. In this paper, we propose and study a cycle-based access protocol, the Fair and Efficient Cyclic Control Algorithm (FECCA), to achieve a fair access mechanism for such a full-duplex spatial-reuse ring. By employing the reversed access control mechanism, this scheme can yield high network throughput levels. Furthermore, this access scheme incorporates a local regulation protocol to resolve the congestion state inequities occurring within the duration time constant of a single global cycle. In addition, through the use of queueing models and analytical approximations, we present an analytical method for evaluating the network's throughput performance for a special network topology. These analytical performance results are shown to be close to those obtained by simulations.
