Over 31 nm wavelength-switched pulse generation from a fiber ring laser with a fabry-perot laser diode

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

An actively mode-locked fiber ring laser for generating wavelength-switched optical pulses is demonstrated in this paper. A Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) is used as a modulator, and a tunable filter is used as a wavelength selector. At a fixed modulation frequency, the optical side-mode-suppression-ratio (SMSR) of this fiber laser is better than 40 dB over the wavelength-switched range of 31 nm. The pulsewidth is between 41.72ps and 44.74ps.
