Abstract
In this paper, we investigate a novel approach that using the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor in the internet of things (IoT) applications for real-time remote sensing systems. For a remote sensing FBG sensor network, a hybrid of Raman amplifier (RA) and Erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is proposed. In IoT system, FBG sensor is used to improve the flexibility, adaptability, and manageability for monitoring the conditions of the objects or physical environment due to the low cost, remote sensing, and high reliability. The result of the experiment indicates that an improved gain spectrum and spontaneous emission power is achieved using the hybrid amplifier and fiber ring laser. As a result, stable and high peak power is generated. Furthermore, even FBGs positioned after 50 km SMF, a fiber ring laser, achieves an output of a stable wavelength of FBGs with an optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of more than 46 dB.
