Abstract
This paper proposes an Internet-of-Things based controller to control and monitor the speed, vibration, and temperature of a three -phase induction motor (IM) using a variable - frequency driver and ESP8266 NodeMCU DevKit board. The rotation speed of the IM can be controlled by varying its source current through IEEE 802.11 Wi -Fi computer communication by using a mobile app. Furthermore, temperature, humidity, and vibration of the IM can be monitored simultaneously by using both DHT22 and SW-420 sensors. The sensing data are transmitted to the cloud server in real time over the Internet. The mobile app can therefore access and monitor the status of the IM. After analysis, the IM can be powered off if an abnormality exists in the data. All the designed functions are tested and verified remotely through a Wi-Fi network. The experimental results indicate that the speed of the IM is controlled successfully. Using Wi-Fi networks for remote IM control is therefore easy, reliable, and flexible.
