Abstract

When the earthquake comes, the pore water pressure in the earth dam will sensibly react earlier than the displacement. The pore water pressure is sufficient to regard as the warning signal of the earth dam failure. Therefore, we use the effective stress analysis code DIANA-SWANDYNE in this study and match up the centrifuge model testing of Jen-Yi-Tan earth dam project by University of Colorado at Boulder in USA. Compare the numerical analysis with the centrifuge testing results. And then apply the program to simulate the pore water pressure build up condition when Jen-Yi-Ten dam receives the cyclic loading. The analysis result shows the horizontal acceleration of centrifugal modeling test trend changes the same as numerical analysis result.
