Adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control for vibration isolation in a magnetorheological mount

Abstract

In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller (AFSMC) to suppress the vibration of a magnetorheological (MR) mount is proposed. An MR mount is used for absorbing unwanted disturbances in the base by properly controlling the magnetic fields inside the mount. The current coils inside the MR mount can generate a magnetic field to control the damping ratio of this vibration attenuation system. However, the dynamic equation of an MR mount is highly nonlinear and difficult to identify exactly. To resolve this issue, we propose the use of an AFSMC. The capability of isolating the vibration of an MR mount was proved by experiments in which the developed AFSMC was used. The vibration-isolating performance of the AFSMC was shown to be superior to that of the well-known skyhook controller.
