Abstract
The building information modeling (BIM) is applied widely in the construction industry. In general, the general contractors will utilize BIM technology for different related applications based on the requirements and characteristics of a project during the construction phase. The developments of BIM models should be the necessary and important work before the BIM implementations. However, it is not easy for BIM engineers to handle the required BIM models developments based on the requirements. In general, one of practical problems is that the onsite engineers will refer old version of 2D shop drawings developed from BIM model directly without the management mechanism. To solve the above problem, the study proposes the novel approach for the BIM model confirmed requirements and developments in buildings. The one of major objectives in the study is to propose Model Breakdown Structures (MBS) approach to provide helpful diagram for project managers and engineers to allows them to break down their BIM model scope and visualize all the components of the BIM models required to assist the use of BIM applications in construction projects. Furthermore, the proposed approach and system were applied to the case study of new building construction project in Taiwan to verify effectiveness using proposed approach. Finally, the benefits, limitations, conclusions, and suggestions are summarized for further researches and applications.
